Mehmet Aslan started out with a residency at Hinterhof in Basel (Switzerland) and is now based in Berlin where he plays regularly at the city’s iconic Renate club. He’s a producer with Turkish roots who has reappropriated his ancestors’ music through productions that blend folkloric undertones with contemporary 4/4. Since breaking through around 2014 Mehmet has worked his way around Europe, wowing crowds with his unpredictable sets that truly do avoid any genre classification. You can never be sure what you are dancing to during his sets but for the irresistible need to move to it.
Catching the selector vibe emerging in Europe at the moment, Mehmet is able to educate dancers as well as put them through their paces on the floor in his own unique way. On the production front, whether its edits or remixes, his Turkish party anthems have been quick to seduce Tim Sweeney and Acid Arab, as well as the UK label Huntleys + Palmers, which signed his first compositions. Winter 2016 will see extended studio session as the Berlin based Turk hones his sound in his own original productions. Summer 2016 saw the launch of his own Fleeting Wax with members of his hometown Basel’s Alma Negra collective, with a host of releases upcoming the future is looking bright for the man dubbed the Mechanical Turk.
